TX Logistik increases frequency from Padborg to Verona

TX Logistik AG has now increased its intermodal connections between Padborg in Denmark and Verona in Italy from five to six round trips per week. This innovation coincides with the completion of comprehensive work on its own terminal in Padborg. “Both these steps are a reaction on our part to continuing demand on the north-south axis”, says Patrick Zilles. “With daily departures, we offer our customers more flexibility, attractive slots for third parties, and are optimally set up in the terminal, even for refrigerated transport”.

Through extended capacity, TX Logistik enables multiple transportation. The refrigerated segment plays a central role here. “Demand for refrigerated transport is growing: around one half of the units in our Padborg terminal are temperature-sensitive goods”, explains Patrick Zilles, senior director of sales & marketing at TX Logistik. Whilst hanging meat, cheese and milk products, in particular, are transported by rail in trailers from Denmark to Italy, fruit and vegetables are sent from Italy to the Scandinavian consumer markets. In order to be equipped for this multiple transportation and for the special requirements of fresh produce logistics, TX Logistik has installed 14 new cooling connections for reefer units and refrigerated trailers.

In the last two years, the storage area has already been extended to 3,300 sqm, the existing tracks lengthened and the electrification of the terminal implemented. Since then, several trains can be loaded and unloaded simultaneously and faster. “Padborg is our gateway to Scandinavia”, as Jörg Nowaczyk, intermodal division manager, emphasises the importance of the location.

TX Logistik expects also future growth on the north-south corridor through increased use of the NiKRASA transhipment system, the significance of which is recognised more and more in the fresh produce segment, too. Semi-trailers which are not suitable for crane handling are loaded using a plate, easily, efficiently and without having to change equipment or process flows, and are thus set on the rails as a standard container wagon. Refrigerated trailers are also transported between Padborg and Verona in this way. Patrick Zilles: “It has never been easier to load from the road on to the rails. We provide fresh produce logistic companies with quick transit times, a high level of punctuality and weekend opening hours in the terminal. However, sustainable transport is also an issue of no less importance since the clients of our fresh produce customers increasingly expect solutions to lower their CO2 emissions – and here, rail transportation has clear advantages”.
