Transport Logistic 2025: BOX ID Starter Edition for simplified asset tracking
Load carriers enable the safe transport of valuable goods. In turn, they have a high value themselves: if a company optimizes the use of returnable transport packaging (RTP), it saves time and money. Asset Tracking provides the necessary data and creates transparency throughout the entire supply chain. To visualize and exploit the potential of active control of container circulation without risk and major investment, BOX ID has designed the new BOX ID Starter Edition. It will be presented for the first time at Transport Logistic (Munich trade fair, June 2-5).
Lost returnable packaging, long transport and idle times or missing empty containers cause bottlenecks in logistics and drive up costs, if an unnecessarily large number of load carriers have to be purchased or replenished to compensate. Companies in the automotive and mechanical engineering industries are just as affected by this as manufacturers of special glass and other bulky or sensitive products, for example in the medical technology and wholesale sectors. If deliveries are delayed due to a lack of load carriers, this costs many companies dearly—apart from the damage to the logistics provider’s reputation.
95% less loss of load carriers and 25% lower costs
The key to reliable availability of transport containers and an optimal fleet size lies in their efficient management. Asset Tracking provides the basis for this, by enabling container fleets and shipments to be tracked and monitored in real time. The data helps to identify and eliminate sources of disruption and shows potential for process optimization. Customers of the IoT-based SaaS solution BOX ID for asset tracking have been able to reduce the loss of load carriers by up to 95% in practice and reduce their transport container fleet—and cost—by 20 to 25%. Companies worldwide benefit from this: “With BOX ID’s active container management, we can optimally control container circulation and ensure consistently high availability. Missing load carriers are now a thing of the past,” says Tobias Gößmann, Senior Project and Process Manager at Simon Hegele Healthcare Solutions, a logistics company specializing in the transport of high-quality medical devices. This is achieved by making the location and condition of all transport packaging visible at a glance in the software. With just a few interventions, processes can be improved and turnaround times significantly reduced.
Free your employees from searching for load carriers
Many companies do believe that they can benefit from a more efficient organization of their load carrier fleet. They are looking for ways to relieve their employees, who often use Excel lists, delivery bills, follow-up phone calls and a lot of manual effort to find load carriers and speed up their return. At the same time, they are reluctant to opt for an asset tracking solution without knowing whether and how well it fulfills their individual requirements.

Proof of value: in just a few weeks and without risk
This is precisely where the new BOX ID Starter Edition comes in: it enables a well-founded decision to be made for the introduction of fleet-wide asset tracking, within just 12 weeks and at a cost of just 695 Euros per month. The application is implemented simply, quickly and risk-free as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution. It immediately identifies sources of disruption and potential for improvement. A number of load carriers are therefore equipped with digital asset trackers. 40 of these IoT sensors are included in the price of the Starter Edition and generally provide an initial, rough overview of the status of the supply chain. BOX ID relies on various sensors and technologies that enable seamless monitoring both indoors and outdoors. Additional data sources, QR codes and event notifications can be flexibly integrated. Depending on requirements, the software has read-only or no access to company data from telematics or ERP systems and works completely independently, which also simplifies integration and use. BOX ID is also certified in accordance with ISO 27001 for information security and processes all data in compliance with the GDPR.
Define KPIs, check feasibility, evaluate success
Before the actual connection of the company to the BOX ID cloud platform, the current status and goals of the company are assessed in a one-day workshop. Indicators and milestones are defined to evaluate the success of asset tracking, once the test phase is completed. BOX ID trains employees to install the trackers and use the software. The company is thus able to add, manage and replace additional trackers itself and is not dependent on assistance from BOX ID. At the same time, the Customer Success Team supports the customer with regular milestone meetings, at which potential for optimizing container management is jointly identified and discussed.
Individual automation without programming
All BOX ID functions can be tested with the trackers installed as part of the Starter Edition, from managing devices ans classifying assets to setting up indoor and outdoor zones to monitor with the software. Extensive functions for automated processing can be configured directly in the software, by the user and without programming knowledge. This is made possible by an intuitive graphical user interface and numerous pre-configured sample automations. These include, for example, geofencing functions that trigger actions as soon as an asset leaves a defined zone. Long downtime can also trigger notifications, both within the software and via automation by sending an email to the relevant contact person at the affected location.
Recognize potential and implement measures
With just 40 IoT trackers installed on load carriers, comprehensive data and insights into transit times and dwell times inside and outside the defined zones can be obtained within a very short time. Users can see at a glance when load carriers are affected by long transport or downtime and where the holding time has been exceeded. Inflows and outflows are made visible, as is the distribution of assets across all locations and over time. With the BOX ID Starter Edition, the full range of functions of the software can be used. Companies can use it to identify and analyze potential for process optimization, implement it and measure the improvement. This makes it possible to draw conclusions about the return on investment that can be achieved when rolling out a larger number of assets.

Scalable for any type of fleet size
The newly introduced BOX ID Starter Edition can be used productively on a permanent basis and also includes all ancillary costs such as the mobile network for the IoT sensors. The license is only limited to a maximum of 250 assets that can be tracked and managed. Customers with small load carrier fleets can use the Starter Edition to set up and implement a productive solution easily and without commercial risk. They also benefit from comprehensive access to BOX ID support.
Companies that want to project larger load carrier fleets have the opportunity to carry out a proof-of-value with up to 250 units via the BOX ID Starter Edition. Supported by the BOX ID Customer Success Team, this provides technical assurance for the further roll-out to the entire fleet.
More time for strategic supply chain management
With the BOX ID Starter Edition and a subsequent company-wide roll-out, companies quickly gain an overview and transparency of their container management. They can speed up turnaround times and proactively avoid bottlenecks, reduce loss and misappropriation of their load carriers to a minimum and optimize their fleet size. This saves costs for shuttle containers and reduces capital commitment. Above all, the SaaS solution also provides facts on dwell times and other issues that influence efficiency. BOX ID also frees employees from the time-consuming and frustrating search for lost load carriers, freeing up more time for strategic management of the supply chain. This is in the interests of the company and for the benefit of everyone involved. A proof of value with the BOX ID Starter Edition is the first step towards recognizing and using these benefits. It enables to get started with smart and efficient asset management without risk and without a large up-front investment.
