DPD Switzerland increases roll container availability with BOX ID Asset Management

DPD (Switzerland) AG, one of the leading private express and parcel service providers in Switzerland, has introduced the cloud-based asset management solution BOX ID for tracking and managing its roll container fleet. This reduces the loss of load carriers and enables proactive inventory planning. Within a very short time, DPD was able to achieve significant cost savings and increased operational efficiency with BOX ID.

DPD Switzerland, a Geopost Group company, operates a comprehensive network for national and international shipping solutions, with over 1,000 DPD Pickup parcelshops and 13 depots. Its services include parcel racks for more than 4,500 business customers. In the past, these roll containers had to be regularly repurchased or searched for and returned at great expense, because there was no clarity about their location, use, and responsibility. With a value of around €600-700 per load carrier, this led to high costs, increasing planning and replacement expenses, and a lack of process reliability.

Transparency is key to efficient logistics processes

DPD wanted to put an end to this situation and therefore sought a solution for asset tracking. The company opted for BOX ID, a cloud-based platform that enables proactive asset management beyond tracking. DPD was immediately impressed by its ease of use and lack of operational overhead: instead of paper, delivery notes, and Excel lists, BOX ID relies on IoT-enabled tracking devices combined with QR codes and other data sources—depending on the customer project, requirements, and availability. Based on this data, reliable overviews of the condition of the load carrier fleet and intelligent automations for administration are created fully automatically and without manual input.

BOX ID allows for transparent, real-time monitoring of load carrier stocks at customer sites and in their own hubs at any time; as soon as a predefined threshold value is reached, additional deliveries of load carriers are triggered before bottlenecks occur. The result is proactive scheduling and improved planning, as well as greater supply security for customers.

Quick implementation, lasting success

DPD (Switzerland) AG benefited immediately after implementation from the newly gained transparency and efficiency in load carrier management.

Marc Frank, Operations Director at DPD (Switzerland) AG, said:

“The BOX ID system impresses us with its user-friendliness. It provides reliable data without any additional effort for our teams. This allows us to track our assets and proactively supply our customers with load carriers.”

Matthias Piekarczyk, Chief Sales Officer at BOX ID, adds:

“DPD (Switzerland) AG is an innovative parcel service provider that optimizes its processes to the highest standard. We are delighted to support the company in this endeavor with the BOX ID system for proactive roll container management. We are confident that the investment will pay off through reduced load carrier losses.”

The expected success was visible after only a short time: the loss of load carriers was drastically reduced. This leads to significant cost savings, as fewer roll containers need to be replaced.
